Pump dat shotgun!

OK. So I was just providing MisKelly with some advice on purchasing a shotgun for home defense.

Here's my preference:

Remington 870 Express Magnum pump shotgun with tactical magazine extension
Safety (button behind trigger) Off
Chamber empty
00 Buck (5-shells) in the magazine
Hollowpoint slugs in buttstock mounted shotshell carrier (Last round loaded is first to be chambered; I can lead off with a slug if needed)
A tactical light with pressure switch (I prefer SureFire as a brand. I don't currently mount one though. The max range in my apartment is 6-10 feet.)

Mossbergs have their safety located on top of the backstrap. I have experienced them working loose during a firing string and reapplying themselves in the middle of a string. In other words, you may be in the middle of firing more than one round and the safety may suddenly activate--this prevents you from firing...can you say 12 gauge club?

I have also used the Winchester and i don't recall any particular foibles. I think they're probably as reliable as the Remington.

Although I said in MissKelly's comments that these will protect your hearing (and they will) the real reason is so you don't flinch when the gun goes off, causing you to miss your target and kill your waterbed.

OK. On REAL Sports with Bryant Gumbel (can't believe it) I'm watching a story about Mnute Bol and his unwavering support to his people in the southern Sudan.

He spent his millions trying to help his Christian tribesmates (the Dinka) to resist the dicatorial Islamic Fundamentalist regime. From at least 1983 (!) he was heavily involved in supporting the Dinka.

His money is mostly gone now, but his spirit isn't.

He and his cousin visited 58 Congressmen and Senators to warn them about al Qaeda and Usama bin Laden (who was located in the Sudan at the time) and they went to warn the Pentagon too. They repeatedly begged for help for the Dinka from the USA. Outside of Billary's abortive bombing action (Clinton: 1 pharmaceutical plant; al Qaeda: WTC '93, USS Cole, AMEMB (2), etc.), we haven't done anything to stop the torture and genocide.

Bol wound up in a car accident--not his fault, his taxi driver was drunk--and wound up in a coma with three fractured vertebrae and no health insurance.

I'm thinking maybe RICE/BOL in 2008!

Apparently that "Culture of Corruption" doesn't apply to our venerable Senator. She claims that returning the contributions that she received from 1999 to 2005 from Indian tribes represented by Jack Abramoff would "taint" the tribes.

In accepting more than $40,000 in campaign donations from Abramoff, Murray is the ninth largest receiver of Abramoff funds in the Senate (second largest Dumbocrat).

Air Marshal Shoots Suspect in Miami

I just heard on the car radio (I'm in NY this week) that apparently a flight from Columbia landed in Miami. After the flight landed, a man on the flight "brandished" a bag that he said contained a bomb and went running towards the cockpit--the air marshal attempted to stop him. Somehow (not made clear by the broadcaster) once the man was outside the plane, he reached into the bag at which point the marshal had not choice but to shoot him. The suspect is dead. No word yet on weather or not there actually was a bomb in the bag.

A couple of my friends were trainers for an Air Marshal program a couple of years ago. It appears that they did their job well.

Tacoma Mall Shooting

What I don't get is that no one--not even the 11-year Army veteran--was carrying concealed at the mall?!!

Washington is a shall issue state. I'm ALWAYS carrying at that mall. (And anywhere else that it's legal to do so.)

As usual the P-I's (Probably Incorrect) reporting is a bit off too. The food court is not in front of J.C. Penny's. It's at least 100 yards from J.C. Penny's to the hallway intersection that leads to the Food Court, which is another 100 yards further down that corridor.

If you live in a state that recognizes your Second Amendment right, by all means, avail yourself of the opportunity. Not just for the safety of yourself and your loved ones, but it's the duty of responsible citizens to contribute to the safety of their communities as well.

Not to go off half-cocked, but make sure that you are trained to use your side arm and don't go looking for a fight. Hopefully, you'll never have to draw a weapon in such a situation. But if it is warranted, be prepared.

First, when are dumbass drug smugglers going to get the hint that trafficking in drugs in SE Asia is a very, very bad idea?!! How dense--or mebbe high?--do ya have to be to strap some heroin to yer keister and hop on a flight to Kuala Lumpur/Singapore/Bangkok? Spell it with me kiddies,

The government here seems to be unnecessarily cruel without any mercy given to those who have made an honest mistake. Why not give the person a second chance?

Grabbing a bag that looks just like yours, but that is stuffed with drugs--THAT is an honest mistake. Mr. Nguyen made a choice. Even, if as reported, it was to help his brother--it was an extremely poor choice.

I have to believe it's spin...she cannot actually believe that the majority of the Republican party really wants a more moderate Associate Justice on SCOTUS, can she? If Sen. Boxer's take is representative of her party's core values, then Glenn Reynolds is right...it's not so much that the Republicans are strong, it's that they suck less. A lot less in this case.

I liked Miers' apparent support for the Second Amendment. It happens to be my touchstone for elections, appointments, and life in general. It's the main reason that I'll be voting for Condi Rice in '08 instead of Giuliani. I love Rudy, but I just can't support anyone who supports gun control. I really can't think of any likely candidates that I can get behind...unfortunately I'll probably have to write her in.

Holy Crap!! I even agreed with Prof Dershowitz' self-admitted Libertarian slant. He actually said that his Libertarian bent "trumps" his Liberal leanings! (OK, it's just in relation to the Plame/Libby/Rove thang, but still!)
